It was quite possibly the best birthday I had had so far, but there were some things that bothered me later, so a few days later, after trying and failing to ignore my questions, I avoided Eli and Tris after lessons and sought out my mother. She was in the library, reading by one of the windows on one of the upper levels. Uncle Andrew was, as I’ve said, always right about the weather. I glanced back over my shoulder; apparently Eli wasn’t as unconscious as I had thought.
“Almost eleven thirty.” I said hitching him up on my back more. He was really getting too big for piggyback rides.
“Oh.” he yawned, tightening his loose grip around my neck slightly, not that it mattered, my hands where linked behind my back holding him up anyway. “’S late.” he murmured.
“It is. So late it’s almost early.”
